Taiwan 99 National Park Reach the Perfection

Date: 2010/03/09 – 2011/09/10
Participants are required to purchase the “Peak of Perfection” passport via post office before taking the challenge. Complete the activity by reaching 7 peaks of the 9 selected Taiwan Mountains (Kenting National Park-Mt. Nanren, National Park-Mt. Yu, Yangmingshan National Park-Mt. Cising, Taroko National Park- Mt. Nanhu, Mt. Chilai, Mt. Hehuan E., Kinmen National Park-Mt. Taiwu) with photos taken at the designated location glued inside the passport and the date of achieving. Send the passport to the Yushan National Park Headquarters for stamp of completion. A certificate and souvenir will be given out at the Grand Assembly at Tatajia Area of Yushan National Park on the 2011 Double Tenth Day (10/10/2011).

There will be 1 million bicycles cycling clockwise around Taiwan from 10,000 different points at a designated time on Dec 31, 2011. The activity represents new hopes and the bright future of Taiwan. It is also expected to make the Guinness World Record of most people cycle at the same time.

2011 Taiwan New Year's Countdown

To celebrate and welcome the 100th Anniversary of Taiwan, an unprecedented countdown celebration will be held in the evening of Dec 31st, 2010. It will cover the areas of Taipei International Flora Expo Dajia Riverside Park Area, The Grand Hotel Taipei(Yuanshan Hotel), Dazhi Bridge and Keelung Riverside Area.

There will be fascinating performances, splendid fireworks, and fabulous visual arts coordinated by Lin Hwai-Min (林懷民), the choreographer and also founder of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, co-working with 5 famous experts including Lin Keh-Hua (林國華)-artistic director of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, Cai Guo-Qiang (蔡國強)-world famous contemporary artist and curator, Wang, Chia-ming (王嘉明)- director of youth theatre, Leo Cheung (張國永)- award winner of Hong Kong Best Stage Light & Sound Designer and Jennifer Wen Ma (馬文)- a member of the Olympics Opening & Closing Ceremony committee as well as special assistance from Academy Award Winner & instructor of the 2004 Athens Olympics Opening and Closing ceremony, Gregory Breakell and artistic director of Ilotopie’s Water Fools, Bruno Schnebelin. Visitors definitely do not want to miss the fun and shows by these eminent masters!

This mega 2011 Taiwan New Year's Countdown will be a breakthrough. Integrating the precious landscape and nature resources of along the Keelung Riverside, a 120m-long “Fountain of Hope”, and the world’s largest 200m-wide water screen will be seen on the New Year’s countdown celebration at Dajia Riverside Park making a new page in the Taiwan’s history. Good Morning Taiwan – Flag-Raising Ceremony

The Flag-Raising Ceremony is held on the first day of the New Year at 05:30. After a wonderful night of celebrations, follow the crowds to the Presidential Office Building and get ready for the Flag-Raising ceremony. The New Year Day Flag-Raising Ceremony symbolizes the hopes for a brighter future and respects to the nation.

2011 Taiwan Flag-Raising Ceremony has invited Hong Yu-Jing (Taiwanese soprano), Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra and eight other musical groups together to perform the national anthem. There will also be military parades and public parades as well as performances after the ceremony.

Double Tenth Day (Taiwan National Day)

ct 10, 2010 is the National Day of Taiwan and is also the 99th anniversary of the nation. Celebrations will commence in front of the Presidential Office Building at 09:30 with gratitude, pursuing excellence and maintaining national competitiveness as the themes of this year’s celebrations. There will also be a public parade in Taipei in the afternoon after the morning’s celebrations and ending the day with a splendid firework show of over 50,000 fireworks. This year’s National Day gala will be held on an outlying Taiwan island, Penghu the first time ever.

Aboriginal Harvest Festival

There are 15 major aboriginal tribes in Taiwan, each has their own distinctive ways of life and traditions. Every summer in Taiwan is the time for the splendid harvest festival of many Taiwan aboriginal tribes, including the Amis, Beinan, Kavalan, and Paiwan. This year starting from July 3rd through September, 2011, a total of more than 200 harvest festivals will be held in Hualien and Taitung. All visitors are welcomed to join in the festivities to savor the real sense of the colorful aboriginal cultures.

Grappling with the Ghost Festival in Yilan
Date: 2011/08/28 (29th day of the 7th lunar month)
Location: Wushih Harbor in Yilan County
 
The 7th lunar month is considered the month when the gates of the underworld open allowing departed souls to return to the world. The Ghost Festival, also known as “Pudu” in Mandarin, is held during the 7th lunar month every year, where a number of ritual ceremonies will be held to pray to the spirits for protection, success, and peace. There will be traditional folkloric performances and festivities across the cities of Taiwan to honor the spirits of the deceased. Out of the many festivities, two major festivities of the Ghost Festival are the Mid-Summer ghost Festival in Keelung and Grappling with the Ghost Festival in Yilan.

On the day of the Double Tenth Day, people in Taiwan and overseas Taiwanese from all over the world come together to celebrate this important day of the nation. The day starts off with a military and public parade through the streets of Taipei and in front of the Presidential Office Building. Followed by the President addresses the country and firework displays as well as stage performances by local celebrities and artists.

2011 Taroko International Marathon

Taroko International Marathon is the only marathon in the world that takes place surrounded by fascinating geographical marvels, including rock formations, gorge, and marble cliffs.
