Taipei 101

Beginning in the 1990s, the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan attentively promoted the strategies of Asia-Pacific Regional Operations Center. The most representative work from the strategy was a plan for an International Financial Center next to Taipei World Trade Center locating in Xinyi Business District. The International Financial Center was first planned to have two constructions with more than thirty-stories, later the plan with three constructions was decided. When China Development won the bid of constructing and formed Taipei Financial Center Corporation, the three constructions designed by famous architect Zu-Yuan Li combined as one, making the skyscraper Taipei 101 with a height of five hundred and eight meters.

Taipei 101 had its grand opening in 2004. Being the landmark of Taipei City, it was designed in eight sections, according to Chinese lucky number eight. This building is a skyscraper comprises of one hundred and one floors with the fastest elevators in the world that can travel ninety floors in only thirty-seven seconds (sixty four point four kilometers per hour approximate).
