Located at the center of the island, Nantou is the only landlocked county in Taiwan. With the total area of 4106.436 square kilometers, it is the second largest county of Taiwan. Due to its fine water quality, warm weather, and fertile land, Nantou has abundant natural resources, as well as animals and plants. Thus, it has earned the name “Mother Earth of Taiwan”.
Nantou County covers one city, four urban townships, and eight rural townships. Its mountainous area makes it a tourist destination. The most popular recreation areas are:

Puli Township, also known as the “City of Flowers”, is famous for its beautiful flowers including Africa chrysanthemums, carnations, cleisostoma paniculatum, coreopsis, golden queen globeflower, philoxeroids, phalaenopsis, rape flowers, and roses. Also, the famous annual Nantou Flower Festival is held at Puli Township.

Nantou is the hometown of Atayal, Bunun, Thao, and Tsou aboriginal people. The Atayal people are live in Ren’ai Township; the Bunun people are live in Ren’ai and Xinyi Township; the Thao people are live in Yuchi and Shuili Township; the Tsou people are live in Xinyi Township.
