The Kaohsiung transportation Bureau is hosting a "Free Bus Ride on Green Thursdays" campaign, which includes free bus service every Thursday and free tourist bus service every weekend. This campaign will run from June 12 to September 14, 2008. There are 6 new special tourist bus routes that provide you with convenient travel transportation means for free! When you come to Kaohsiung for travel on weekends this summer, you will not have to worry about Kaohsiung transportation in the city anymore. In fact, you would not have to spend a penny!

The purpose of this campaign is to encourage the use of public transportation. The free bus service is expected to cost about NT$ 30 million (US $988,500) over the three months from city's Environmental Protection Bureau's air pollution control fund. However, the program is also expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 170 tons.
