National Museum of History in Taipei is now being crowded by visitors coming to see the special exhibition of the famous French realism painter, Jean-Francois Millet. This event is officially named “Millet and his Time: Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay”, and runs from May 31 to September 5. During this time, you will be able to see and admire as many as a total of 66 oil paintings and photographs directly loaned from the French museum. Of these, 16 are authentic pieces completed by Jean-Francois Millet. His two most famous creations “The Gleaners” and “The Angelus” are not to be missed. The two masterpieces have never been exhibited outside of France simultaneously, and is also the first time displayed in Taiwan. If you are visiting Taipei, it is a good idea to visit the National Museum of History during your Taipei travel to see this exhibition.

Besides Millet, his Barbizon colleagues including Corot, Rousseau and Dupré, as well as other who were influenced by Millet such as Breton and Hédouin, are part of the exhibition as well. One can truly understand the social, historical and aesthetic aspects of the rural life of 19th century France through the appreciation of these many artworks depicted by Millet and other Barbizon artists.
