The Qianmen is a gate in Beijing, China; it was formerly the front gate of the Imperial City, a part of the ancient city of Beijing. Because of its grandeur and unique design, the Qianmen was long seen as the symbol of old Beijing.
On the northern end of the street, nine buildings from the 1920s and 30s were preserved, along with another 41 old name-brand shops that carry cultural and historic significance. In addition, an old-fashioned trolley car will be employed, with tickets costing no less than 4 yuan each. Qianmen's Wupailou, Beijing's largest, is located at the street's northern end. The Wupailou is a huge, wooden, decorated archway, through which visitors must enter to officially traverse on Qianmen Street. Traditional old name-brand edifices, including the Quanjude roast duck restaurant and China Post have also been given new life.
As the main form of public transportation from start to end along Qianmen Street, the trolley will take about 10 minutes to travel down the 840 meter track.
