2011, Annual Sun Moon Lake swimming event has once again set to go on the 4th of September 2011. The event is also set to be one of the largest mass participation swim events in the world. With entries reaching between 19,000-22,000 people all set to dive into a big swimming pool, participants better enjoy swimming with other people, a lot of people.
The swim is located in the largest lake in Taiwan, the Sun Moon Lake, and is one of the most beautiful and most visited tourist attractions in Asia. Shaped like an irregular rhombus, the eastern part of the lake is shaped like a round sun while the other part is like a crescent moon. Thus it was named “Sun Moon Lake”. The beauty of the Sun Moon Lake is the calm, turquoise water complemented by the majestic mountains that surround the lake.
The annual Sun Moon Lake International Swimming Carnival is a gathering of grand history with huge scale; Each autumn since 1983, competitive swimmers from Taiwan and overseas fill up the lake, creating a spectacular sight. The cross-lake, 3.3km, open swim event aims at “promoting the beauty of Sun Moon Lake and to make friends by means of the swimming activity” and is recognized as an international sport activity. The Puli Four-Season Swimming Association is proud to be the event organizer for the past 25 years and welcomes all swimmers to take part of this annual phenomenon at Taiwan’s Sun Moon Lake!
