Would you like to get away from the summer heat and enjoy some water fun? Every summer Taiwan children and adults alike are waiting for one big event—Yilan International Children's Folklore & Folkgame Festival! This year it will be staged in Dongshan River Water Park in Yilan County from July 7 to August 26. Every day from 8:30 to 20:30 fun activities abound in Dongshan River Water Park awaiting your participation. The festival is arranged in 4 parts—performance, exhibition, game, and cultural exchange. Children folk dance groups from Taiwan and 5 continents in the world are invited to bring folk songs and dances to Taiwan public. Imagine dancing with Oceanian dancers or playing games with South American children! For exhibition, this year there is an exhibition hall displaying various whipping tops from Taiwan and Japan. Visitors can have a glance at its history and play the whipping tops with the masters. Another hall exhibits interesting games and snacks back in the old time, arousing people's childhood memory. Also, located beside the Dongshan River is a three-dimensional movie theater designed as a flying shuttle. In this theater which can accommodate 160 people, visitors can take an exciting adventure in three-dimensional movie. In game area, visitors can have water fun in areas equipped with "jellyfish waterfall," "crab labyrinth," "Octopus Spout" and "hippocampus stage." Besides, this year for kids under 10 years old a special area is arranged, so that kids can have water fun to their hearts' content in this mini water world. For folkgame zone, people are provided the opportunity to make themselves some folkgame toys, such as bamboo weaving, clay, fabric, and wood painting. Folkgame masters will bring their works for exhibition and demonstration, as well as teach and interact with visitors. This year for the first time there will be a creative market, which gathers arts and crafts brought by performance groups abroad, as well as by Taiwan domestic artists/citizens. Visitors can have cultural exchange with worldwide artists and witness the prosperity of Taiwan's cultural & creative industry. To reach Dongshan River Water Park, visitors can drive through Hsuehshan Tunnel or take the train to Luo-Dong Stop and transfer to the shuttle bus.
