Beijing Transportation
Beijing is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads, and motorways passing through the city. It is also the destination of many international flights in China.
Airplanes
Beijing's primary airport is the Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA). It is about 25 km northeast of city center. The three terminals provide services for most domestic and nearly all international flights. Another airport is the Beijing Nanyuan Airport. It serves as the base of China United Airlines.
Bus
The public bus and the trolleybus are the main bus types in Beijing. The fare for bus No.1 to 122 (urban line) will be RMB 1, and RMB 2 for bus No. 201 to 212 (night buses.) The fare for bus No. 300 to 949 (suburban lines) depends on the total distance. The fare will be RMB 1 for the first 12 kilometers, and add additional RMB 0.5 for every 0.1-5 kilometers. any bus route starting with the number “8” means that bus is air-conditioned, bus with the Chinese word “特” means that bus is a double-decker bus, and bus with the Chinese word “游” means that bus is a tourist bus which travels along many scenic spots.
Railways
Train is a very convenient transport for tourists in China. There are four main railway stations in Beijing, including Beijing Railway Station, Beijing North Railway Station, Beijing West Railway Station, and Beijing South Railway Station. The lines in Beijing will reach Baotou, Chengde, Dalian, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Harbin, Inner and Outer Mongolia, Jinan, Kowloon, Nanjing, Qingdao, Qinhuangdao, Shanghai, Shenyang, Tianjin, Yuanping, as well as reaching Pyongyang of North Korea.
Roads and expressways
Nine toll expressways are linked to Beijing, including Airport Expressway, Badaling Expressway, Jingcheng Expressway, Jingha Expressway, Jingjintang Expressway, Jingkai Expressway, Jingshen Expressway, Jingshi Expressway, and Jingtong Expressway.
Subway
The Beijing Subway is a rapid transit rail network that serves both urban and suburban districts of Beijing. It now has lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, plus Line Batong and Airport Line. Since Beijing's subway lines basically follow the checkerboard layout of the city, most of them run parallel or perpendicular to each other.
Taxi
There are a large number of legal taxis and illegal taxis in Beijing. Most taxis are Hyundai Elantras, Hyundai Sonatas, Peugeot Citroëns, and Volkswagen Jettas. Passengers may have to pay all the road and bridge fee, and parking fee. Remember to get the receipt for the taxi information.
The fares on legal taxis start at RMB 10 for the first 3 km and RMB 2 per additional kilometer (prices may vary without notice.) An additional 20% fee will be charged as the late night surcharge from 23:00~5:00.
