Taiwan is renowned for its food, and has been called a food paradise. Besides delicious cuisines and snacks, Taiwan also has famous desserts such as Pineapple Cake in Keelung, Sun Cake and Taro Cake in Taichung, Gongtang in Jinmen, mochi in Hualien, Ox Tongue Biscuits in Yilan, Peanut Candy in Taoyuan, Nougat in Tainan, dried persimmon in Hsinchu, Square Biscuits in Chiayi, etc.
The pineapple cake is a delicious square-shaped cookie with sweet winter melon filling. The texture of the cake is between soft and crispy, and it has a buttery flavor. The crust just seems to dissolve and melts into the mouth. Even though its name is “pineapple” cake, the ingredient does not include any pineapple. Since winter melon paste has a softer and better taste than the pineapple paste, almost all the stores now use winter melon to make the filling. One may purchase pineapple cakes at any cities in Taiwan, but the most famous pineapple cakes are in Keelung.
