Prague Spring Music Festival

The origin of Prague Spring International Music Festival dates back to May 11th, 1946. Under the patronage of the Czechslovak president Edvard Beneš at that time, the first Prague Spring International Music Festival was established. Coincidently, 1946 was also the year that Czech Philharmonic Orchestra celebrated its fiftieth anniversaries. Therefore, it was arranged that they and other superb artists perform in the festival so as to reveal the esteem to Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. On 1952, in memory of the death day of Bedřich Smetana, the father of Czech music, Prague Spring International Music Festival was postponed to May 12th. From then on, symbolizing the spirit of Czech, Bedřich Smetana's symphonic poems "Má vlast," literally means "My Country," is a necessary in the inauguration.
Besides the presence of Czech spirit, a large collection of Mozart's works are played during Prague Spring International Music Festival. The reason is that Mozart once stayed in Prague for a while and created several compositions related to Prague, such as Don Giovanni and the Prague Symphony.
